Los Al Boys relay leads the nation and sets records

The Los Alamitos HS Boys 1600m Sprint Medley Relay (SMR) entered the prestigious Arcadia Invitational on Friday night ranked first in both California and the USA, and did not disappoint with their performance.
Last year the Boys 1600m SMR won at the national caliber Arcadia meet, however after graduating three seniors from the relay, a repeat performance was going to be a challenge. This year the relay, which is run in legs of 200m – 200m – 400m – 800m, added senior Jacob Gasser, junior Jose Rubio, senior Holden Edmondson to join senior Thomas Heib. Heib’s prior experience as the 800m leg of the relay proved key to their performance as his explosive kick in the final 100m pulled the team from third place to victory.
The relay’s time of 3:26.36 is not only the fastest in the nation this year; it is also an Arcadia Invitational meet record, an Orange County all-time record and a Los Al school record.
Top Performances by other Griffins include:
· Junior Kallie Given cleared 5’-4” to place 3rd in the Invitational high jump.
· Girls Invitational 4x100m Shuttle Hurdle Relay of senior Alison Parsons, sophomore Lauren Willingham, senior Pi’ilani Mata, and senior Ashlan Revollar placed 3rd in a school record time of 1:05.08.
