The Griffins handed the Barons their first league loss and just their second loss of the season. Fountain Valley had been ranked as high as third in national polls, but the Griffins jumped on them early and never let the Barons into the game.
The Griffins (13-8, 5-6) are back in the playoff picture as they have climbed into a tie for third place with Edison with four games left to play. Castillo highlighted a five-run first inning with a three-run home run to give the Griffins an early lead. The Barons pushed across a run in the bottom of the third, but the Griffins tacked on two more in the fourth inning and three more in the six.
Patrick Boyer was 2-for-3 with a run and Cody Marshall was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Shortstop Frank Padulo went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs and James Stea was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The Griffins will host Huntington Beach today at 3:15 p.m. and then will play at Huntington Beach on Friday at 3:15 p.m.
