The Los Alamitos High football team rebounded from their loss to Edison to defeat Fountain Valley, 28-21, in a Sunset League game on Friday at Westminster High.
The win keeps the Griffins in the hunt for at least second place in the league race and sets up important games in the final two weeks.
The Griffins (6-2, 2-1) and Barons (3-5, 0-3) exchanged scores throughout the game, but the Griffins scored with 7 minutes left in the game and held on for the 7-point win. Richie Molina had 90 yards rushing and scored the final two touchdowns for the Griffins. Quarterback Cody Marshall threw for 256 yards and rushed for a touchdown of his own to lead the Griffins. Luke Pastell had 88 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Dashawn Gordon added 82 receiving yards for the Griffins.
Fountain Valley countered behind the arm of quarterback Chris d’Entremont, who threw for 156 yards and two touchdowns for the Barons. Fountain Valley has lost all three of its league games by seven points or less.
The Griffins will return home on Friday to take on Huntington Beach at 7 p.m. at Veteran’s Stadium. The Griffins, Huntington Beach and Newport Harbor are all 2-1 in league heading into the last two weeks of the season.
