The Los Alamitos High football team beat the Damien Spartans 42-7 on Friday at Veteran’s Stadium. It marked Coach John Barnes 299th win, an Orange County record, and improved the Griffins to 4-1 as they head into Sunset League play.

There were no injuries on offense during the game, and the defense has been recuperating since the loss against Charter Oak. The defense had two interceptions and recovered two fumbles, both made by Matt Locher, who eventually recovered one fumble for a touchdown late in the game.
Richie Molina scored the first two touchdowns on runs of 3 and 5 yards, respectively. The second score came after a 43-yard reception from Dashawn Gordon, giving the Griffins a 13-7 lead. Meanwhile, Cody Marshall threw for 224 yards on an 11 of 18 passing night. Gordon then contributed 128 yards with 10 carries, followed by Kendall Brownlow’s 45-yard touchdown reception.
A few minutes before halftime, Marshall found Luke Pastell and connected for a 32-yard touchdown, making the score 19-7. Marshall then scored on the two-point PAT to make the score 21-7.
Damien did not score for the rest of the night. Brownlow managed to break two tackles on a 45-yard touchdown reception, followed by Gordon’s 31-yard catch from Marshall, rounding out the final score of the night to 42-7.
Next week the Griffins take on Marina High School on homecoming. A win would mark Coach Barnes 300th career victory.
