Orange County Board of Supervisors gave three awards to volunteers with the O.C. Community Resources and O.C. Public Libraries with one award going to 37 year Cypress resident Constance (Connie) “Buffy” Buffkin.
“Buffy” has volunteered at the Cypress Library since 1999 when she started volunteering every Sunday. Volunteering at the library became a daily commitment when she retired from her position as assistant principal. Having been a school administrator she knows the need for organization and it is this skill that empowers her with others in all that she does. One can see her doing her chores at the library, buzzing from one place to another. She is like the Energizer Bunny and just “keeps going and going and going.”
In her daily volunteer duties at the Cypress Library, Buffy lends a hand with anything and everything that the staff asks her to do from watering the plants to searching for books from the “hold” reports. When she is not shelving books, she is busy picking up the Book Drop books or stocking the Book Nook. She participates and sometimes runs the monthly book club group at the library and will even take home tasks like sewing beanbags for children’s story time.
Buffy not only generously applies her skills and talents at the Cypress Library but also crochets caps for “Knots of Love” and lap blankets for veterans. She is a member of the Woman’s Club of Cypress where again she uses her many skills to promote and carryout many of their philanthropic activities.
The County Supervisors presented Buffy with a plaque, a commemorative pin and letter of appreciation. Buffy’s dedication to the Cypress Library is unsurpassed. She has volunteered 14 years of unwavering service with 2,360 volunteer hours and her personal commitment to do more.
