The dodge ball tournament at Cypress High on April 11, benefited the Make A Wish Foundation chapter at the school.

Cypress High School is the magnet of this city in many ways. The art of philanthropy is one reason why the school is a beacon in the community. Friday, April, 11, the school was point zero to generate money to make a child’s wish come true.

The Make A Wish Foundation does that every day. Dania Al-Itani, president of the Make A Wish chapter at Cypress High School, and the rest of the student body, raising more than $5,000 to some child’s dream come true.

Al-Itani and her pals were able to execute this improbable task by holding a couple of fundraisers. One of them was a dodgeball tournament, which was held April 11. Thirty-two teams registered and competed in the dodgeball tournament.

“Cypress High School has never granted a wish, and I wanted to lead our team to be the first to empower a local, innocent child and give him or her a reason to keep fighting. The day the wish is granted is not about the life-threatening condition; it is about the promise of a future. Through our collective efforts, we have been able to raise $5, 000 since the beginning of this school year, more than our chapter had previously raised in the past 10 years. This shows how powerful a purpose is. Make A Wish has shaped me into the confident, compassionate, and responsible, young adult I am today. While trying to make a difference, I made a difference in myself as well,” says Al-Itani.
