Cypress hosts a small business tax seminar

California State Board of Equalization Vice Chair, Michelle Steel, in partnership with the City of Cypress, hosted a Small Business Tax Seminar & Resource Expo on May 2 at the Cypress Community Center.  Mayor Prakash Narain, M.D. was in attendance to welcome the business leaders to the city.

The free seminar was designed as a one-stop-shop for small business owners or those wanting to start a business. It enabled them to get free assistance from the local, state, and federal agencies including the State Board of Equalization, Franchise Tax Board, Internal Revenue Service, State Attorney General’s Office, Employment Development Department (EDD), Small Business Administration (SBA), and Service Corporation of Retired Executives (SCORE).

Topics presented included types of business entities, sales and use tax, proper classification of employees vs. independent contractors, how to find financing for your business and more.
