Cypress celebrates women with first Women’s Conference

The City of Cypress celebrated their first Women’s Conference on Tuesday, Oct. 22, featuring keynote speaker Eileen Frere, ABC7 Eyewitness News Orange County Bureau Chief, who shared her story and path to success.

The City of Cypress celebrated their first Women’s Conference on Tuesday, Oct. 22, featuring keynote speaker Eileen Frere, ABC7 Eyewitness News Orange County Bureau Chief, who shared her story and path to success.

Elsie Carruthers was honored as the Woman Civic Leader of the Year and Julie Sediq of Toyo Tires was honored as the Woman Executive of the Year.

The event was well attended attracting powerful women leaders both locally and at the state level. Dignitaries included Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, Board of Equalization Vice Chair Michelle Steel, Cypress Councilwoman Mariellen Yarc, Cypress Chief of Police Jackie Gomez-Whiteley, Cypress School District Superintendent Beverly Hempstead, Anaheim Union High School District Board of Directors Assistant Clerk Anna Piercy, and past president of the Soroptimist International of the Americas Catherine Standiford.

“I am really excited about our first Women’s Conference,” said Councilwoman Yarc.  “Women have become such an important part of our lives, in business, in our communities and in our families – it’s great to celebrate and recognize what we have accomplished.” she added.
