“Turkey to Israel” is famed Chef Avi Shemtov’s topic for an in-person presentation at the Alpert Jewish Community Center (AJCC) Sunday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. Trained by his father Chef Yona Shemtov, he will share Israeli and Middle Eastern recipes and stories of his experience as a restaurant owner, cookbook author, and food truck owner (Chubby Chickpea Food Truck).

Shemtov aims to popularize middle eastern food and push it to its limits, exploring the global influences of Israeli cuisine that coincide with the global journey of the Israeli people.

“We are grateful to be able to host the community at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Jewish Long Beach Campus and the Alpert JCC as we slowly return to in-person events,” said Zach Benjamin, CEO of Jewish Long Beach. “Programming like this that celebrates food and culture is ideal subject matter as we bring the community back together to restore our connections with each other.”

Tickets are $10 per person and should be purchased by November 12. Vaccination required or negative Covid test within the last 72 hours. Visit www.alpertjcc.org/avi-shemtov to purchase tickets.

The Alpert JCC and Jewish Long Beach provide programming for all ages and stages of life. Senior adults are one of the AJCC’s core constituencies. Over 10% of the population of the City of Long Beach is age 65 and older.

Known as “Your Center for Life,” The Alpert JCC provides a gathering space in which all are welcome to pursue early childhood education, after-school programs, fitness programs, aquatics activities, and summer camp, as well as to engage in Jewish life, culture, and education.
