Los Alamitos Army Airfield (LAAAF) Manager and California Army National Guard helicopter pilot, Lt. Col. Jeff Sibley, was the guest speaker at the January meeting of the Los Alamitos High School Aviation Club.
Sibley was invited by Aviation Club Founder and President Matthew Baldwin to share his experiences operating a military airfield and flying the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter in a variety of missions ranging from fighting wild fires in California to combat support missions in Iraq.  He also demonstrated safety equipment utilized by Army aviators and talked about career opportunities in Army Aviation and the California National Guard.
Sibley also invited club members for a special tour of LAAAF where they will visit airfield operations and the control tower and receive an orientation to the Black Hawk helicopter.
The Aviation Club (ACLA) was founded last September and its mission is to introduce and explore career options and recreational enjoyment within the field.  Monthly meetings feature guest speakers on topics ranging from piloting to engineering and airfield operations.  Club meetings are open to all students at Los Alamitos High School and are held at lunchtime on the second Thursday of each month.
