The Boys & Girls Club of Cypress is asking community members to donate money to the their Military Children’s Summer Program Scholarship Fund, which provides free summer program activities for children whose parents serve in the military. The club supports military families by providing a free, positive, stable, enriching environment for their children. Children of military families face more than the usual challenges of growing up, from moving and re-establishing friendships every few years, to worrying about family members who have been deployed. At the club, members always feel at home.
Military service men and women’s commitment to freedom and democracy requires them to put their own family lives on hold in response to the call to serve. These dedicated men and women leave behind their most precious loved ones, trusting that the community will help and protect their families as they are protecting the country. Children of active duty military personnel are especially vulnerable to depression and other challenges when a parent is deployed. The club provides a stable, encouraging environment for long-term mentoring and support.
The Boys & Girls Club of Cypress has committed to being there for local military families — all they need to do is come through the club’s doors. But the club needs help since the program grew from 6 to 40 children last year. The cost to provide a child a full nine weeks of summer activities is $1,000. Supporting troops is the honorable thing to do – and there is no better way to support them than to give them the peace of mind in knowing that, in their absence, their children are being cared for and protected.
Consider helping local military families by making a tax-deductible contribution to the Boys & Girls Club of Cypress. Contributions of any amount will make a difference. They can be mailed to or dropped off at the Boys & Girls Club of Cypress at 10161 Moody Street, Cypress, CA 90630, with attention to Military Children’s Summer Program Scholarship Fund.
