Blake’s Place, the popular barbecue restaurant and caterer that started in Anaheim 16 years ago, has opened its second location in Rossmoor. Located in the Rossmoor Village Square at Katella and Los Alamitos Blvd., Blake’s Place shares space in the same building as two Los Alamitos institutions, The Original Fish Company, and Fio Ritos.
Specializing in real hickory-smoked barbecue fare, Blake’s cuts no corners in the preparation of its smoked meats.
Using a wood pit smoker, each item is rubbed with Blake’s own dry spice rub, basted in Blake’s sauce, and cooked “slow and low.” Slow and low means slow-cooked at low temperatures. Beef brisket, pulled pork, chicken, turkey, ribs, and sausage are all smoked on the premises. The smoked meats are served up as entrees, in sandwiches, and atop their signature salads.
Blake’s Place also features its own recipe barbecued beans, cole slaw, and homemade desserts such as apple and peach cobblers, and bread pudding. A signature sandwich is “The Beast,” a 2 ½ pound creation full of pulled pork, chopped brisket and pulled chicken on a massive bun. Those brave enough to challenge The Beast, and finishing it in twenty minutes are rewarded with a Beast T-Shirt and bumper sticker. The record is just over four minutes.
