Big year for the Los Al School District

Los Alamitos Unified School District has a long-standing legacy of excellence in Academics, Athletics, Activities, and the Arts.  They take their motto, Igniting Unlimited Possibilities, seriously and continually strive to meet the needs, goals, and aspirations of their students and the dreams families have for their children.  They’ve continued this tradition in 2015-16 and celebrate the following accomplishments:
• All schools were recognized as California Gold Ribbon Schools, naming Los Alamitos Unified as a Gold Ribbon District

Los Alamitos Unified School District has a long-standing legacy of excellence in Academics, Athletics, Activities, and the Arts.  They take their motto, Igniting Unlimited Possibilities, seriously and continually strive to meet the needs, goals, and aspirations of their students and the dreams families have for their children.  They’ve continued this tradition in 2015-16 and celebrate the following accomplishments:
• All schools were recognized as California Gold Ribbon Schools, naming Los Alamitos Unified as a Gold Ribbon District
• State Testing (CAASPP) results increased at every grade level and in every subject tested
• Completion rates for A-G College Entrance Requirements rose to 77%
• Los Alamitos Unified was the only district in Orange County and one of five in the United States named to the College Board’s Honor Roll six years in a row
• Forty-one athletes accepted college scholarships
• Athletic teams earned 10 Sunset league championships
• Los Alamitos High School (LAHS) Show Choir was named three-time national champions
• Varsity Song was named national champions, and Varsity Cheer was named World champions
• LAHS Band, Drama, Improv, Robotics, & Model United Nations earned numerous awards and excelled in local and State competitions
• Los Alamitos Unified enhanced STEAM programs at every grade level
• Exemplary intervention and bridge programs were provided year-round to help all students succeed and have access to a rigorous instructional program
• Los Alamitos Unified continued a joint partnership with the Cities of Los Alamitos and Seal Beach to secure a School Resource Officer for the LAHS campus
• Measure K completely modernized all sites, except LAHS, On Time and On Budget
• Facility upgrades, including increased technology infrastructure, were completed across the District
• Safety measures increased, most recently with security fencing at McGaugh and LAE and surveillance cameras at LAHS
• Traffic congestion and student safety were improved with twice as many students taking the bus to school and staggered start times
• Professional Development (Los Al Connects), Peer Coaching, and Instructional Rounds increased across the District
• The explosion of technology resulted in more devices across the District, more high-quality instructional strategies in classrooms, and additional site-level support at every school
Our Griffin Graduates made the following plans:
• 91% – post secondary education
• 4% – Military
• 5% – Undecided and Certificate Program Students
