Los Alamitos dominates Marina

The Los Alamitos High football team rebounded from its first loss of the season with an impressive victory against Marina High in Sunset League action. It delivered a 54-7 victory on Thursday, Oct. 17 at Westminster High in Westminster.

The Griffins (6-1, 1-1) initially trailed against the Vikings (1-6, 0-2), who took an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. However, the Griffins knotted the contest at 7-7 before the close of the first quarter. Schuyler Whitehead did the deed with the first of his three touchdowns. He would finish with 16 touches for 185 yards. He would score a pair of touchdowns n the second quarter, which ended with the Griffins in front 34-0.

Senior Deshawn Gordon also returned a punt for a 60-yard score and quarterback Nick Wendell connected with Cameron Austin for a 24-yard passing touchdown before the end of the opening half. Wendell completed 13 of 17 passes for 155 yards.

The Griffins previously lost their first contest of the season, suffering a league defeat at the hands of Newport Harbor, which experts have pegged as the favorite to win the league crown.

Los Alamitos will return to action with another road contest. This one will take place against Edison High on Thursday, Oct. 24 at Huntington Beach High in Huntington Beach. The kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
