The Cypress High football team suffered a 28-14 defeat to undefeated Yorba Linda in an Empire League contest on Thursday, Oct. 17.

The Cypress High football team suffered a 28-14 defeat to undefeated Yorba Linda in an Empire League contest on Thursday, Oct. 17.

Yorba Linda (7-0, 3-0) remained unbeaten and at the top of the league standings while Cypress (4-3, 1-2), who fell into a tie for fourth, suffered its second straight loss in league.

The Mustangs owned a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and 21-0 advantage at the end of the opening half.The Centurions finally drew blood in the third quarter when Andrew Moreno caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Nick Buras. The pair later connected for a 17-yard score in the fourth, cutting the deficit to 28-14.

For the Centurions, wide receiver Hector Delgado caught four passes for 57 yards. Quinten Pounds also had an interception.

Cypress returns to action against Pacifica on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. That contest will take place at Bolsa Grande High in Garden Grove.
