Cypress High quarterback Nick Buras threw for 175 yards and scrambled for 135 yards. He also threw three touchdowns and notched another with his legs. He connected with Quinten Pounds to give the Cypress the lead with 9:00 left in the second quarter. The Centurions would hold their 26-14 advantage at the half and never look back.
The Centurions (2-0) scored two more times in the third, which included a running touchdown by Joe Chavez, who tallied 48 yards on the ground. Chavez also delivered an impressive outing as a defensive back, causing a fumble and making several important plays.
Pounds finished with three touchdowns catches and two on the ground. He also made three interceptions. Also, Todd Brown recovered a fumble.
Cypress returns to action against Los Amigos on Sept. 13. That contest will take place at Western high School at 7 p.m.
