United Water Polo’s Girls 12 and Under team made a clean sweep this past weekend in San Diego. The team, coached by Jason Mills, climbed to victory, winning every game. The seven-game tournament, named the San Diego Cup, includes more than 20 teams from throughout Southern California.
Three players were standouts in the tournament and received All-County Tournament accolades, MVP Tara DeBrabander, along with Katie Duvonch, Leslie Haynes, and Emily Tucker. The youngest player, Kylie Figueroa, 8, was able to show her budding potential by scoring a few goals for the team.
The team will spend the next month preparing for Junior Olympic qualifications. Coach Mills believes the team has a chance to shine in the coming months. As of right now, they are shining with their gold medals.
The San Diego County Cup, sponsored by KAP7, is a youth water polo event that brings Southern California based clubs together for two weekends of games, all based on grade levels. The event is organized by San Diego Shores Water Polo Club and runs from May 3-5, and May 10-12.
