AGENT Program talks import/export

The City of Cypress Assist, Grow, Educate, Network, & Thrive (AGENT) Program, in partnership with the Small Business Administration (SBA) held a well-attended workshop on successful exporting in today’s global economy on Thursday, July 19 at the Cypress Community Center. A panel of import/export experts was on hand to share with business leaders in attendance aspects of international trade, including working with port authorities, logistics, and securing financing.

The expert panel included:

  • Randal Long, Consultant – Rancho Santiago Center for International Trade Development
  • Marcel van Dijk, Marketing Manager for the Port of Los Angeles
  • Stephen H. LaCount, Attorney
  • Mark Hirzel, Western Regional Director, MIQ Logistics
  • Thomas Burr, Vice President/Global Trade Manager – Union Bank, District Export Council Southern California

Topics that were discussed included:

  • Opportunities in exporting
  • Possible challenges and risks of exporting
  • How to research new markets
  • Understanding export logistics
  • Payment processing and available financing

The AGENT Program will be working with SBA officials to conduct further workshops covering each topic discussed in detail.  The next AGENT workshop will take place in late October or early November.
