Paul’s Place consistently serving good food at reasonable prices for more than twenty years.

Paul’s Place is in the heart of Los Alamitos, in the cross hairs of two schools and a major business thoroughfare, making it an ideal location for such a thriving business. Paul’s Place has become an institution on Los Alamitos Boulevard, since its’ opening more than twenty years ago. In that time they have served over one million satisfied customers, including myself on several occasions. I have been frequenting Paul’s Place for several years and still have not tried everything on their vast menu.  Paul’s Place is a nice quiet location off Los Alamitos Blvd. and Florista Street. Not your typical fast food establishment, they have no indoor dining, no drive up window and nothing pre-cooked. They take orders and serve their customers through a series of windows at a walk-up counter, nothing fancy here. All dishes are made to order and cooking only begins after your order is placed. Although they don’t have indoor dining, they do have a large outdoor dining patio sufficiently covered by a huge green awning that practically covers the entire patio, which is filled with a jungle of plants, trees and more umbrellas. The music is usually playing and the birds are always chirping, making this an ideal tranquil spot to get away for a quick bite to eat or break from the office. I would categorize Paul’s as a fast food diner, with ambiance.

 

With a diverse menu consisting of everything from Mexican, Greek, hamburgers, salads and their oh so yummy fried zucchini strips, It’s no wonder I still have trouble deciding on what to order. This is not your typical burger joint and not your typical diner, just a little bit of both made better. In the past, I have eaten their hamburgers, fries, fried zucchini strips, onion rings, tuna melts, burritos and they have never disappointed me. It’s no wonder Paul’s Place is so popular amongst locals.

 

Craving a hot pastrami sandwich, I decided to go to Paul’s Place. It had been awhile since I had eaten here and I knew they served just about everything except breakfast. They must make a Pastrami sandwich. Not to be disappointed, indeed they do sell Pastrami sandwiches ($6.45). I ordered one, which proved to be amazing.  Piled high with pastrami meat and served the classic old-fashioned way, with pickles and mustard on a sourdough roll. I was sold on this at first glance. It was intimidating in size, as the meat was piled high and packed between the bread roll.

 

On the first bite I was an even bigger fan of Paul’s Place than before. This sandwich was juicy with a hint of spice and packed full of flavor. The juices ran out of the meat and soaked further into the bread with every bite. I tasted all sorts of brine, spices, yellow mustard and dill pickles mixing together, adding layer upon layer of tangy, zesty flavors to the already perfect meat.  This sandwich proved to be worthy of awesomeness from the first bite to the last bite. I am glad I chose Paul’s to fill my craving for Pastrami.  I think this may have been the best Pastrami I have ever had.

 

My last big Pastrami sandwich was eaten at Carnegie Deli in New York City and for my money I preferred both the taste and character of Paul’s Place. This sandwich hit the mark and raised the bar for all Pastrami sandwiches to come. Paul’s Place knows how to do it right and please its customers, by serving quality food that tastes good at reasonable prices.
