The Los Alamitos Youth Center is again selling trees, wreaths and ornaments this Christmas season in the Ganahl Lumber parking lot to support local kids.
Selecting a tree from the Youth Center is a time-honored annual tradition for many locals, with every penny raised going directly to The Youth Center’s after school programs, music program, the Leadership Academy, “Every 15 Minutes” Camp SHARK and Teen Camp. Proceeds also fund scholarships for low-income families. Not only do 100 percent of the tree lot’s proceeds go to support kids, other nonprofits in Los Alamitos benefit as well, including Precious Life Shelter, Casa Youth Shelter, Grateful Hearts and We Care of Los Alamitos. Through a partnership with We Care of Los Alamitos, free trees are annually provided to families in need. To-date, The Youth Center has donated more than 2,000 trees.
The lot is located at Ganahl Lumber, 10742 Los Alamitos Blvd., in Los Alamitos. Lot hours are weekdays noon to 9 p.m. and weekends 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
“In addition to providing our location, as they have done for 22 years, Ganahl Lumber is donating $25,000 to cover all the trees The Youth Center will donate to families in need and Military families this year,” said Lina Lumme, Executive Director of The Youth Center. “Many local parents were laid off this year, and the Christmas tree lot allows us to raise the funds needed to keep our doors open and continue helping families throughout the holiday season and beyond,” she continued.
This year, more than 300 volunteers, including those from the Seal Beach Lions Club, LAHS Baseball, Biker’s Club, local school kids and community members are helping by setting up the lot and serving customers.
