Law enforcement appreciation day in Los Alamitos

Officers and administrators of the Los Alamitos Police Department were treated to a special lunch from Maderas Steakhouse on August 11 as part of Orange County Law Enforcement Appreciation Day declared by OC Supervisor Michelle Steel.

The meal, organized by the Los Alamitos Area Chamber of Commerce, was sponsored by SoCalGas, with additional desserts from Katella Deli.

It was held at the Los Alamitos city council chambers, set up for a socially distanced meal.
Mayor Richard D. Murphy thanked the police department for everything it does to ensure public safety, and Chief of Police Eric R. Nunez thanked his officers for all of their hard work on behalf of the city. Nunez also thanked the community for their support during a difficult time.

Given that the meal was catered by Maderas, Nunez graciously told the crowd about the once-a-year meal the owner of Maderas, Art Garcia, serves to severely injured veterans at the VA Hospital in Long Beach.

“Sir, that is just so loving and patriotic,” he said.

The lunch included steak, vegetables, and bread delivered by Art Garcia, the owner of Maderas, who also brought his own special cheesecake usually served with holiday meals he provides to patients at the VA Hospital in Long Beach every year.

Councilmembers Dean Grose and Tanya Doby were also on hand to show their support for the Police Department.

Nunez thanked Garcia, Steel and all of the vendors for their support including the National Association for Republican Women, who sponsored protests in support of police.
Steel proclaimed August 11 as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day in Orange County.
