With several weeks left in the campaign, the King and Queen of Hearts candidates have already fundraised more than $52,000 for the Los Alamitos Education Foundation (LAEF).

This is $12,000 more than the entirety of last year’s debut campaign with much more fundraising still set to take place. The King and Queen who raise the most funds will be crowned at the Royal Ball and Coronation Gala on Feb. 20 at the Grand Event Center in Long Beach.

You can jump in the Southland Credit Union Cash Booth at Rossmoor Carwash on Feb. 7 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Make a $20 donation to Tom Lent’s campaign, and for 15 seconds you can grab as much cash as you can.

You can join a wine tasting event on Feb. 8 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the home of school board member Karen Russell, supporting school board member Dr. Jeff Barke. For $25 you taste many award winning wines. Tickets are available to purchase on the LAEF website at www.LAEF4Kids.org/jeff-barke.

You can also head over to the Duke and Duchess Clothing Store for a shopping event supporting Tina Heeren and Jeff Barke on Feb. 11 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The store is located at 9091 Walker Street in Cypress. For a $15 donation you get 15 percent off all purchases, and 15 percent of sales go to LAEF.  Refreshments will be served.

Students at Los Alamitos Elementary School and McAuliffe Middle School will participate in class fundraising competitions to benefit McAuliffe Principal Annie Allen’s bid for queen.  Students at Weaver and McGaugh will also be fundraising to support Seal Beach Police Chief Joe Stilinovich.

Many very successful events have already taken place including “Take a Photo with Buddy the Elf” supporting Tina Heeren, the Polar Plunge with Chief Joe Stilinovich, Change Wars for retired music teacher Coralie Prince at Hopkinson and Lee Elementary Schools, a McAuliffe PTA sponsored pancake breakfast for Annie Allen, and many personal donation requests from Jim Klisanin of Baytown Realty and Shelley Hasselbrink of the Los Alamitos City Council.
