Kolina Janji, with American Legion Junior Auxiliary, Unit 716 of Los Alamitos, took top honors at the American Legion Convention, in Santa Clara for “Little Miss Poppy.”

Kolina represented her Unit and passed out more than 1,000 poppies, this year. Each year, volunteers of American Legion Auxiliary across the nation, distribute more than 3.5 million red crepe paper poppies in exchange for donations to assist disabled and hospitalized veterans. The poppy is a replica of the poppies that bloomed on the battlefields in France during WWI. Local poppies are all hand-made at the Long Beach Veterans Hospital by disabled veterans.

The memorial poppy is not only a personal tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for America, but honors its living veterans, active duty service members and their families.

One hundred percent of all funds received from the poppy distribution, are used exclusively for the Veteran Affairs and Rehabilitation, including aid to needy veterans and their families.

Among other things Kolina put together an album showcasing her duties as “Little Miss Poppy” for the year.  After winning for District 29 her goal was to win for the State of California. She succeeded.
