St. Hedwig third grader, Olivia Cesneros thought she was being recognized for selling cookies during the school’s morning assembly on May 21. But instead Cesneros was the recipient of a much more special surprise. Cesneros’ father, National Guard Spc. Julian Cesneros had returned from a 10-month assignment in Afghanistan to surprise his daughter. Spc. Cesneros is part of the 578th Engineers out of Pomona. His recent assignment was his second tour in Afghanistan. The reunion with his daughter brought cheers from parents, students and faculty and tears to the eyes of Olivia. Courtesy photo
