Sugar Beet Festival to feature photo contest

Local professional photographers and amateur dabblers alike are all invited to enter the Sweet Photo Bomb Contest, a new feature of the 2nd Southland Credit Union Sugar Beet Festival which will be held on June 7 from 8 a.m. to 2.p.m. at the Shops at Rossmoor.

Local professional photographers and amateur dabblers alike are all invited to enter the Sweet Photo Bomb Contest, a new feature of the 2nd Southland Credit Union Sugar Beet Festival which will be held on June 7 from 8 a.m. to 2.p.m. at the Shops at Rossmoor.

The goal of the contest is to present unique and interesting photos that represent a daily snapshot of life, work and play among the people, schools, groups, and businesses in the west Orange County and east Long Beach.

All submitted photographs will be considered for exhibition at the Sugar Beet Festival, except those of an inappropriate nature. Organizers expect approximately 500 images will be printed and displayed in an exhibit at the festival.

Photographers will have 12 categories to choose from:

1. Los Al Life: Life in Los Alamitos

2. Rambling in Rossmoor: Displays of what makes Rossmoor a quiet little gem

3. Seal Beach Scenes: Main Street USA meets the Pacific Ocean

4. Across the Moat: Life in Long Beach and Los Angeles County

5. OC Can You See: Life in the rest of the OC

6. People at Work: the variety of people and professions in West Orange County

7. Architecture: Buildings and Structures

8. Landscapes: Nature on Display

9. People at Play: Members of the community having fun and staying healthy

10. Black & White: Bringing out the drama in monochrome

11. Historical: Any old time photos (not required to be original photographer for submission)

12. Through the Eyes of a Child: Any photo submitted by local young photographers

The contest is free to enter, but each entrant is limited to a maximum of 5 images per submission category.  All entries are due by midnight June 1.

The Southland Credit Union Sugar Beet Festival will be held on June 7 beginning at 8 a.m. with the running of the 5k-ish Sugartown Challenge fun obstacle course. It runs throughout the Shops at Rossmoor and a middle leg up in Old Town Los Alamitos.

All are invited to enjoy the day at the festival, which will feature music, food, exhibits from non-profits and vendors, and other contests throughout the day.
