“As part of the (West County Connectors) project, the southbound I-405/eastbound SR-22 connector bridge has been reconstructed to make room for the new carpool connector,” said an OCTA flyer. “Crews are now preparing to demolish the old southbound I-405/eastbound SR-22 bridge.”
The OCTA is suggesting detours during the weekend demolition project. For travelers who would normally go north on I-405, which will be closed at Valley View Street, alternatives include: exiting Beach Boulevard and turning right, taking the westbound SR-22 on-ramp; or exit going east on Westminster Avenue and turn left, then turn right on Bolsa Chica Road, then take the westbound SR-22 on-ramp or exit Valley View Street and turn left onto Garden Grove Boulevard, then turn right on Valley View Street, then take the eastbound SR-22 on-ramp.
According to the OCTA, any of these routes will allow a traveler to reconnect with the northbound I-405. For the southbound I-405 traveler, which will be closed from the I-605 junction to the eastbound SR-22 connector, the county agency suggests the following detours:
Exit Studebaker Road and turn right, then turn left on East Second Street and Westminster Avenue, then continue on Westminster; or merge into northbound I-605 traffic, exit at Katella Avenue and turn right, then turn right on to Valley View Street to access the southbound I-405.
If you’re coming from I-605, exit Willow Street and turn right on Studebaker Road, then turn left on East Second Street and Westminster Avenue to access the southbound I-405.
If you’re traveling from Seventh Street or the eastbound SR-22, merge into northbound I-605, exit Katella Avenue and turn right. Then turn right on Valley View Street. For more information, visit www.octa.net/bridgedemo or call the Construction Hotline at 800-724-0353.
