Michelle Steel, Chairwoman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, has followed through on her promise to promptly deliver CARES Act funding checks to assist small businesses throughout her district.
Steel hosted all of the Second District mayors this week to personally deliver the CARES Act funding to them.
“I am thrilled to deliver this much needed CARES Act Funding to the cities of the Second District to be given to their respective small businesses. Local control over these funds is vital, because our cities know their business communities best,” said Chairwoman Steel.
Chairwoman Steel was joined at the Hall of Administration by Councilwoman Diane Dixon of Newport Beach, Mayor Katrina Foley of Costa Mesa, Mayor Lyn Semeta of Huntington Beach, Mayor Dave Shawver of Stanton, Mayor Cheryl Brothers of Fountain Valley, Mayor Rob Johnson of Cypress, Mayor Fred Smith of Buena Park, Mayor Peter Kim La Palma, Mayor Richard Murphy of Los Alamitos to receive the checks.
“Our small businesses are the backbone of Orange County and they have been suffering as a result of COVID-19. I hope that this long-awaited CARES Act funding will be allocated quickly for the businesses that need it most,” added Chairwoman Steel.
Murphy, who was a member of the committee of Orange County mayors working on the relief distribution, said Los Alamitos “got exactly what we wanted.”
While other districts within the county are working through guidelines, Supervisors Steel and Don Wagner delivered the checks directly to the mayors.
Cypress has already conducted a round of small business grant applications, La Palma has announcement the formation of guidelines and Los Al is working on how best to utilize the federal funding.
