When school’s out, the Boys & Girls Club is in

It’s back to school time when the slower pace of summer is replaced by school project deadlines, sports practices and the general busyness of today’s very active families.

It’s back to school time when the slower pace of summer is replaced by school project deadlines, sports practices and the general busyness of today’s very active families.

At the Boys & Girls Club of Cypress, they provide the support that kids and families need to reduce the stress involved with trying to get everything done well and on-time. They provide a daily Power Hour homework assistance program that gives children an opportunity to complete their homework and school projects while at the club, relieving some of the pressures on mom and dad.

The club is open Monday-Friday until 6:30 p.m., and offers a variety of small group activities that teach members about technology, health and nutrition, fitness, and character and leadership development opportunities. They maximize students’ time by encouraging skill development as well as offering a wide variety of games and activities.

Registration for the after school program is now in progress. No child is ever turned away for inability to pay. For those who can afford to pay, the club charges $135 a month and this includes all activities and a daily healthy snack. Transportation from school to the club is available for another $135 a month. Families who are unable to pay these fees are able to apply for scholarships that are funded by donations from community members and local businesses.

The club provides free program and transportation services to children from active military families. If you’d like to help the club raise the $30,000 needed to support this project, please send donations to the Boys & Girls Club of Cypress, 10161 Moody Street, Cypress, CA 90603, Attention: Military Scholarship Program. Donations can also be made online at www.boysandgirlsclubofcypress.com.

For more than 30 years the Boys & Girls Club of Cypress has been in the forefront of youth development, working with people of all economic, ethnic, social and family circumstances with special concern for those who are disadvantaged. The Boys & Girls Club provides children with a safe place to grow and learn, on-going relationships with caring adult professionals, and life enhancing programs.

Today more than 800 youth between the ages of 6 and 17 participate in the club's two after school locations and in their summer program. The club also hosts a variety of family activity nights and helps connect families to other local resources.
