Savanna High’s softball team had played in two consecutive CIF-SS finals, but the end has been bitter as they lost for the second consecutive year to Paraclete of Lancaster.
Paraclete broke open a tied game in the top of the seventh inning to capture the title with an 8-4 win on Saturday at Bill Barber Park in Irvine.
The big blow came on a three-run home run by Taylor Roberts in the top of the seventh inning. With two on by walks, the Rebels looked like they might escape after a soft liner to second for the second out. But Roberts turned on the first pitch and lined a shot over the left field fence that gave the Spirit a 7-4 lead.
“I thought our kids battled and played tough all the way through,” Coach Mike Willey said.
“I’m proud of our kids, we have come a long way,” Willey said.
