Realtors to host public document shredding event

For a 5th consecutive year agents at Keller Williams Realty in Los Alamitos will be hosting ‘Shredding Day’ on Saturday, April 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the office parking lot. The event is a fundraiser for KW Cares and a tax-deductible donation is requested but not mandatory as the event is free.

“We have two big shredding trucks that we have hired, with high-volume industrial shredders, to come do all the grinding for you,” said Christine Frumen, who is spearheading the event.

“It’s a great way to clean up the clutter and do a little spring cleaning at the same time,” said Elaine Armogida, CEO and Team Leader at KW in Los Alamitos. “Plus the timing for the event is perfect coming right after the tax season.”

“This is a great opportunity for people to shred any of their outdated, confidential materials such as financial and medical records, credit card slips and other excess documents,” she added.

Frumen said that staples and paperclips are okay to leave on the paperwork but that binder clips and 3-ring binders can’t be shredded.

“Some of these businesses that charge to shred documents charge $1 a pound,” said Frumen. “So this is a more economical way to do it. And this service to the local community gives them an opportunity to feel safe in destroying their personal information.”

“I am walking the flyer in several areas that I market to,” said Agent Richard Daskam. “This is an event for the entire community and we hope that everyone takes advantage of the Shredding Day to get rid of those papers and records they no longer need.”

Frumen also points out this a great way to help with the greening of the community.

KW in Los Alamitos is involved with many projects to help out in the local community.

The office recently helped collect school supplies with this year’s ‘Back To School’ project to benefit the Mary McLeod Bethune Transitional Center for Homeless Students, part of the Long Beach Unified School District. Agents also collect canned food items for the Second Harvest Food Bank, the AIDS Food Store and for Toys for the Tots project every holiday season.

The shredding will be taking place behind Keller Williams Realty at the Pine Street parking lot. The cross street is Florista. Keller Williams Realty is located at 10900 Los Alamitos Blvd, Suite 160 (behind Hof’s Hut.)
