The Board of the Rossmoor Community Services District has adopted a resolution opposing HOT (High Occupancy Toll) lanes on the I-405 Improvement Project. The action was prompted by the announcement by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to the OCTA Board of Director, that Caltrans would be proposing HOT lanes for the project.
“This is totally unacceptable, given to the overwhelming opposition to any toll lanes by the public and communities along the I-405 corridor,” District Board President Michael Maynard said.
The District’s Resolution is a strong expression of opposition to toll lanes by Rossmoor’s elected representatives. It is also consistent with the voice of the Rossmoor community having stated that toll lanes will have the greatest impact its residents based on their proximity to the I-405, I-605, and SR22 interchange (interchange). The back up at that interchange due to additional vehicles being jammed into L.A. County’s freeway system will adversely affect Rossmoor’s residents, most particularly the elderly and school children, the RCSD believes.
“Hopkinson Elementary School is a mere stone’s throw away from the interchange.” Maynard said, adding, “This can’t be good for our children or our community.”
The District is also supportive of the Town Hall Forum being held in conjunction with corridor cities opposing ‘405 Freeway Toll Lanes’. The public is encouraged to attend in order to strongly demonstrate the region’s opposition to toll roads without a vote of the Orange County electorate.
