Kennedy (2-1) vs. Magnolia (2-1)

Friday at Western High, 7 p.m.

TJ Williams ran roughshod for 251 yards and four touchdowns, in leading the Fighting Irish to a 30-28 win over El Modena last week. But the Irish struggled to contain the Vanguard passing game as El Modena rallied for 14 points in the fourth quarter and failed on a two-point conversion attempt that would have tied the game with 1:40 left.

Still, the Fighting Irish improved to 2-1 and will face another air threat again this week. Magnolia quarterback Fernando Garcia threw for 255 yards in the Sentinels’ 30-15 win over Loara last week.

Cypress (2-0) vs. Troy (3-0)

Thursday at Fullerton High, 7 p.m.
On paper, Cypress’ match-up against Los Amigos looked like a close game. In reality, the Centurions had little trouble with the Lobos as they rolled to a 41-0 win last week. Quarterback Nick Buras threw for 190 yards, with two touchdowns to Quinten Pounds, and ran for another touchdown. Pounds finished with 109 receiving yards, and also had two rushing touchdowns. Taylor Williams was the Cypress workhorse on the ground with 189 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Again, the Centurions face what should be a tough test against Troy High. The Warriors have compiled 103 points in three game, led by a rushing attack that averages about 236 yards per game.

Los Alamitos (2-0) vs. Canyon/Anaheim (0-2)

Thursday at Veterans Stadium/LB, 7 p.m.

The Griffins edged Eastlake of Chula Vista last week and had little trouble with Paramount in their season opener. Canyon has struggled so far and if the Griffins are focused they should again have little trouble. Los Al needs to tighten up its run defense, which surrendered 265 yards to Eastlake last week.
