The Los Alamitos High football team remained undefeated with a low-scoring win against Canyon (Anaheim). The Griffins scored once to post a 7-0 victory on Friday, Sept. 19 at El Modena High.

The Griffins (3-0) scored their only touchdown in the first quarter. Quarterback Nick Wendell, who did not play last year because of injuries, threw a 10-yard pass to wide receiver Dashawn Gordon in the end zone. Wendell struggled at times and went 5 for 20 for 74 yards.

Their running attack didn’t do much better. Running back Kendall Brownlow gained just 24 yards on the ground while Derrick Brantley had just 38.

Also, the Griffins turned the ball over on downs twice inside the redzone.

Though they never scored again, the Griffins defense managed to keep the Comanches out of the end zone for the entire game. This included denying four different attempts by the Comanches to convert on fourth-down plays in the second half.

Though the Comanches outgained the Griffins by 40 yards on offense, they only reached the redzone once. They did that in the first half, reaching the 19-yard line, but missed a 38-yard field goal attempt.

Los Alamitos High will return to action on Sept. 27 at Lynwood High. That game starts at 7 p.m.
