Los Alamitos Race Course, which is currently housing 87 horses that had to be evacuated from their homes due to the Silverado Canyon Fire and Blue Ridge Fire currently blazing in Orange County, is prepared to assist 250 more displaced horses if needed.
“We are working closely with various groups in the community to make sure we can provide a safe place for as many horses as we possibly can help during this moment of emergency,” said Ed Allred, the owner of Los Alamitos Race Course.
He said a mix of horses from all walks of lives – ranging from pleasure riding horses to show horses to other equestrian disciplines – were immediately welcomed to Los Alamitos on Monday after the fires began to spread rapidly. Evacuated horses are currently housed on the temporary stalls used at the Cypress track for its recent Los Alamitos Equine Sale on October 3 and 4 and the Fasig-Tipton Yearling Sale on Monday, October 19.

The Silverado Canyon Fire in South Orange has spread rapidly from the Irvine and Lake Forest area. The fire began with 10 acres on Monday morning and by late night it had reached 7,200 acres. The Orange County Fire Authority reported 11,199 acres affected with 5% containment at 7 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The Blue Ridge Fire is on the East Orange
County line in the Yorba Linda area with 8,000 acres affected as of early Tuesday morning.
