Los Al diver wins league title

Los Alamitos High School sophomore diver, Madelyn “Dolly” Payne is Sunset League Girls Champion for the second year in a row and Sunset League Girls Diver of the Year. She has been mixing training with studies for AP and SAT exams as well as tennis practice. Los Al Coach, Shane Butler is thrilled with her success in the pool and in the classroom.  Payne is headed to CIF Division 1 Championships with Fountain Valley junior, Alyssa Loeffelman entered as an alternate after winning Silver at the Sunset League Championships. Los Al divers won four of the six medals. Senior, Skylar Kensinger won Bronze, freshman, Sydney Strickland finished in fourth place and senior, Leigh Hodgson finished in fifth place. Marina sophomore, Lena Ngo rounded out the medals finishing in sixth place.

Huntington Beach High School freshman, Brandon Loschiavo, is Sunset League Champion Boys Champion and Sunset League Boys Diver of the Year.  He earned the title while breaking boys Sunset League Diving records.  He’s got his eye on breaking 600 points and on to the CIFSS Division 1 record set at 701.65 by Olympic Medal Bronze Medal Winner, Troy Dumais.  He is representing Huntington Beach and Sunset League at the CIFSS Division 1 Championships in Riverside this week. Marina High School Sophomore, Grant Newcomb joins Loschiavo at CIF.  He missed League Finals because he was at the men’s Gymnastics National Championships. Marina’s Robbie Demski won Silver. Edison’s Ian Bearss won Bronze, Fountain Valley’s John Richardson finished fourth and Edison’s Tom Carfano rounded out the medals in fifth.
