Locals run well in School Ghoul race

Once again, the third annual School Ghoul Los Alamitos Run drew a large field of local runners and some elite athletes as well.

New this year, was a festival of kids races, which offered children a chance to run for a trophy and a Razor Scooter prize. Organizers said the kids festival of races was a big hit with the young runners.

The run is moving towards becoming a big draw for top runners, but should also remain a fun event for locals to enjoy a brisk run/walk through Rossmoor, while helping raise money for the Los Alamitos Education Foundation.

In the 10K event, Los Alamitos resident Ron Smith, 43, was the top finisher, with a time of 25:39. Another Los Alamitos resident, Phil Avalos, 49, finished 10th overall, with a time of 42:06.

Two Rossmoor residents had strong showings. David Michaels, 40, finished in a time of 50:17, while Steve Shriver, 43, ran the course in 50:43. They were 21st and 23rd overall, respectively. Keith Teraoka of La Palma, 59, was seventh in his age division, with a time of 59:20. Cody Hearn, 10, of Los Alamitos was 46th overall and second in his age division, with a time of 1:00:20.

The 5K event was won by Chris Enriquez, 21, in a time of 14:49. He was followed closely by Andres De La Cruz, 23, with a time of 15:04 and Martin Perez, 19, in 15:20. Rossmoor resident Dave Depew, 53, (winner of the first School Ghoul Run) was 17th overall and first in his age division with a time of 18:00. Luke Deal, 15, of Rossmoor was 19th overall, with a time of 18:33. He was second in his age division. Harrison Smith, 13, of Seal Beach was 20th overall and first in his age division, with a time of 19:19.

Drew Sells, 43, of Los Alamitos was 23rd overall and third in his division, with a time of 19:44. Klaus Quinonez, 14, was 25th overall, with a time of 20:18. Jason Deal, 44, of Rossmoor was 28th overall, with a time of 20:53. Dylan Walker, 15, of Cypress, was 30th overall, with a time of 20:59. Malini Nagpal, 44, was first in the female age 40-49 division and 32nd overall. She finished in a time of 21:26.
