Let’s not be too quick to start drilling

Rep. Ed Royce made the following comments recently in support of the "Energizing America Through Employment Act," which provides congressional approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline:

“Talk about a self-inflicted wound. With U.S. high unemployment, with the U.S. sending hundreds of billions of petrodollars every year to hostile regimes, and with our growing economic rivalry with China, the Obama administration's rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline project is simply maddening.

“It bothers me greatly that China is playing in our North American back yard, and the Administration doesn't seem to care. Where is our sense of rivalry? Where is our urgency? If we don't renew the American spirit of enterprise, if we kibosh critical projects like this pipeline, our economic future is dim.

“China is our economic challenge of the century. With this Keystone decision, the Obama Administration is giving it a big leg-up. Why?”

My guess would be because drilling an oil field that is the next Saudi Arabia, could create more environmental harm than energy good. Why does Royce continue to push for more destruction of the earth?

Also, that oil is in the middle of nowhere and China isn’t going to be scooping it up anytime soon. Maybe we should take a minute to figure out if it’s worth creating another 100 years of global pollution, or might there be better ways to provide energy for our planet?

Senior Center AED

The Cypress Senior Commission is raising money to purchase and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) for both the Cypress Senior Center and Community Center.

According to the data provided by the Senior Center, each year, over 295,000 people suffer from sudden cardiac arrest in the United States and only 8 percent survive.

A defibrillator can potentially save many of those victims. In fact, if a person is defibrillated within the first minute of sudden cardiac arrest, survival chances are close to 90 percent, whereas if access to an AED is delayed by more than 10 minutes, survival is less than 5 percent, according to some studies.

The Senior Center is ask for support from the community in the form donations to purchase an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED). If you would like to contribute to this important lifesaving effort, you can mail a check to:
