Even though we are in the midst of the holiday season, plenty of soccer was enjoyed this past weekend.  A local AYSO Los Alamitos Extra Boys U9 team from Region 159 topped off their fall season in style.
Competing in their first season together, they were one of eight teams from Region 159 to qualify for the Extra playoffs.  This past weekend they made it to the championship game of the Section 11 League Cup and took home finalist medals.  AYSO Section 11 is made up of eight distinct Areas and 64 separate Regions serving communities from the Mexican border to the South, East Los Angeles to the North, and North/East Orange County to the East.  AYSO is the largest youth soccer program in the country.
“We are extremely proud of the success of our Extra teams last week,” said Randall Ely, Regional Commissioner, AYSO Region 159 Los Alamitos.  “We are focused on the importance of player development and strive to offer youth players programs from recreational to competitive soccer at all age levels.”
AYSO Region 159 is a 100 percent volunteer organization and is the largest soccer group in our community, with more than 1,500 players registered for Fall soccer from ages U5 to U19. The Extra program was developed for U9 through U16 players with advanced soccer skills, allowing them to compete at a higher level of play.  AYSO Extra offers players the opportunity to play at a more competitive level after recreational games.  Players participating in the fall Extra Program compete in playoffs against Extra teams from other regions.
Region 159 is already busy gearing up for their Spring Season.  For more information about Extra, go to www.ayso159.org/extra, and for more information about AYSO 159 and to register for spring soccer go to www.ayso159.org.
