Each year, the California congregations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hold a day of service where volunteers from local congregations, their friends and interested community members come together in the hundreds of individual activities planned across the state.
The “Cypress Stake” of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints takes place in Anaheim, Buena Park, Cypress and La Palma this year with the day of service being held on Saturday, April 27. Community members are invited to join church members as they return to the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos.
There they will continue the process of cleaning up broken glass, carpets, doors and other debris from the unused on-base housing units. Once cleaned, they will become important training centers for the military, FBI, SWAT teams and for law enforcement officers. More than 1000 volunteer hours were donated last year by church members and members of the Daughters of the American Revolution in the cleanup effort on the base. This is the 5th Annual Mormon Helping Hands Day of Service held in all areas of California.
The Mormon Helping Hands program was established in 1998 and since then, hundreds of thousands of volunteers have donated millions of hours of service to their communities.
Because of the nature and location of the event, volunteers need to be at least 18 years of age, (or 14 years of age with parental supervision). Volunteers need to meet at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 5151 Orange Ave. in Cypress at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 27.
