More than 1,100 school students from throughout Los Alamitos performed to a sold out crowd in the All-District Choral Festival, “The Song in my Heart” on March 7 at Cottonwood Church auditorium. March is national “Music in our Schools” month.

Recently, a sold-out Los Alamitos High School gymnasium hosted elementary, middle and high school bands that came together in musical performance. The All-District Strings Concert featured all levels performing for parents and community members on Feb. 28. Almost 2,000 students from all levels came together to share one stage and showcase their award winning talents.

Together, these events showcased the talent in Los Alamitos and provided students the opportunity to be connected to their schools, ensuring their involvement in the arts.  Additionally, the events also allowed younger students the opportunity to view the programs at the higher levels, giving them something to aspire to.

“I’m always impressed and amazed by the level of expertise that our students display and the joy and passion that is evident in their performances,” said Los Alamitos Unified School District Superintendent, Dr. Sherry Kropp.

The Orange County Board of Education recently declared, “Arts education, which includes dance, music, theatre, and the visual arts, is an essential part of basic education for all students, kindergarten through grade twelve, to provide for balanced learning and to develop the full potential of their minds…”

Even in tough budgetary times, these major showcases exemplify how much the Los Alamitos Unified School District believes in the value of a quality arts education.
