LAUSD names Olshan new Laurel Principal

Los Alamitos Unified School District has named Heidi Olshan as the new Laurel Principal. Olshan has been a counselor at LAHS for ten years and has served in various leadership capacities throughout her career.

Los Alamitos Unified School District has named Heidi Olshan as the new Laurel Principal. Olshan has been a counselor at LAHS for ten years and has served in various leadership capacities throughout her career.

Prior to coming to Los Alamitos Unified, she taught high school special education for four years in Beverly Hills, California, where she developed and taught a program for at-risk youth for two and a half years in Birmingham, Alabama, and she was a teacher and counselor in Irvine for two years. Olshan has served on the Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force and the Bullying Prevention Task Force. She has been a WASC Committee Chair, developed the Support Personnel Accountability Report Card for LAHS, has been the Student Study Team Leader, and serves on the Threat Assessment Team. Olshan has a bachelor’s degree from Queens College, City University New York, a master’s degree from California State University, Northridge, and holds teaching, pupil personnel services, and administrative credentials.

Olshan has been married to her husband, Jeffrey, for 32 years and has two grown children. Her daughter lives in Huntington Beach and is an Autism Behavior Specialist in Newport Mesa Unified School District and her son who lives in San Francisco, is an Operations Manager for the major league soccer club, the San Jose Earthquakes.  In her spare time, Olshan enjoys playing tennis, all activities that help with health and fitness, and reading.

Superintendent, Dr. Sherry Kropp, said, “Heidi’s background and leadership skills make her an ideal principal for Laurel.  It’s an amazing school with a very talented and caring staff.”
