After serving just over a year as Westminster’s Chief of Police, the city of Cypress has announced Mark Lauderback has been chosen to serve as its next police chief, according to press release.
“Chief Lauderback brings exceptional expertise to Cypress and will be a strong addition to an already stellar police department,” said city manager Peter Grant in making the announcement.
Lauderback fills the void left by the retirement of longtime Cypress Police Chief Rod Cox.
Lauderback is currently Police Chief for the City of Westminster and began his career there in 1994. He has served in various roles, including Patrol, Motor Officer, Detectives, and SWAT. Chief Lauderback possesses a Bachelor of Science degree in Police Management as well as a degree in Criminal Justice. He is a graduate of the P.O.S.T. Executive Development Course and a P.O.S.T. certified instructor at the Golden West College Police Academy.
“He is well regarded throughout Orange County and will advance the positive relationships the Cypress Police Department has established with our community,” said Grant.
Grant said he looked forward to the “great work” Lauderback and the police would do for the city.
Grant said Chief Lauderback was selected through a competitive, nationwide search with input from community leaders, law enforcement officers, and city management professionals, as well as one-on-one interviews with City Manager Grant. Chief Lauderback stood out as a dedicated and enthusiastic law enforcement leader with 27 years of progressively responsible experience.
Lauderback is a long time Cypress resident. His children are graduates of Cypress High School and currently attend Cypress College. Chief Lauderback looks forward to serving the community and continuing to make Cypress a safer city for all.
