The Los Alamitos softball team split two games over the weekend at the Michelle Carew Tournament and improved their record to 14-4 on the season.

The Griffins defeated Orange Lutheran 5-2 on Saturday, but fell later in the day, 13-5, to Pacifica. Halle Humphrey got the win over Orange Lutheran with seven innings pitched, while allowing just two hits and striking out eight.

 

Megan Geer led the Griffins with a home run, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Erika Crissman had two hits, including a double and had an RBI and run scored. Infinity Laufou and Bionca Trejo each had a hit and an RBI.

 

The win got the Griffins into the championship game of the Michelle Carew Tournament, but they ran into the No. 2 ranked team in the CIF-SS Division I poll, the Pacifica Mariners. Pacifica ace pitcher Kaylee Carlson improved to 12-1 with the 13-5 win as she kept the Griffins at bay by allowing just four hits.

 

Mattie Scheele had a home run and three RBIs for the Griffins and Mackenzie Kutzke added a double and scored a run. Geer also had a hit and an RBI.

 

Last week, the Griffins moved to 2-0 in Sunset League play with an 11-4 win over Huntington Beach at Huntington Beach. Humphrey pitched the complete game with six strikeouts and just three earned runs. Geer had two hits and a walk and scored three runs to lead the Griffins. She had a home run and drove in three runs. Laufou had two hits, with a triple RBI and runs scored. Scheele was 3-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored.

 

Kennedy rolls Tritons

Nicole Chavez had a two run home run and scored two runs to highlight a 9-1 Kennedy High win over San Clemente on Saturday in a consolation game of the Michelle Carew Tournament.

 

Kayla Joyce had two hits, including a double, and also drove in a run. Courtney Thomas went 3 for 3 with three RBIs. Angelia Estrada had a single, two RBIs and scored two runs for the Fighting Irish.
