Empire League teams battle on the track

The athletic area at Kennedy High was filled with sports fans on March 27. Some showed up to watch the prep baseball games while others lined the football field in La Palma, where a battle unfolded on the track and infield.

Indeed, the Kennedy High track program hosted Western High for an Empire League duel meet, with one school triumphing in the female competition while the other won in boys’ action.

Indeed, the Irish ladies captured the event with an impressive 68-59 victory and the Pioneers males won by the lopsided score of 78-48.

In other action during the weekend, several athletes from Servite delivered solid efforts at the Beach Cities Invitational, which unfolded at Marina High in Huntington Beach on March 30.

Servite’s Noah Moreno finished in 15th place in the 1600 meter run and teammate Mikeal  Romanenko settled for 20th place. Nick Lipoccola finished in second place in the 100 meter (11.06) and fifth in the 200 (22.51). He finished one spot in front of teammate Tate Beachley.
