Eagle Scout project helps BG Club

The Boys & Girls Club of Cypress recently received two storage containers, designed specifically to hold lost-and-found and emergency equipment items, as part of an Eagle Scout project completed by Thomas Guldimann of Troop 1019. The storage containers were designed and built to fit easily under the club’s front tables, and had wheels attached for easy mobility.

Thomas, whose Boy Scout Troop meets at the club twice a month, had observed that the then current lost-and-found plastic tote containers were sometimes difficult for staff to move in-and-out of the building.

“I noticed that [the club’s] lost-and-found storage containers were difficult to move and deteriorating, and that gave me the idea to create storage containers that would be longer lasting, be better looking and be more useful in the long run,” said Thomas.

With that idea in mind, Thomas began the detailed work that required a written plan. The plan had to be approved by the benefiting organization, the scoutmaster and troop, as well as the local Boy Scout council or district before it can begin. The Eagle candidate must secure necessary donations and volunteer support for the execution and completion of the project.

Troop 1019, under the direction of Scoutmaster Michael Sullivan, has been hosting their meetings at the club for more than 8 years. The troop regularly gives back to the club by assisting at family nights, open houses, and other activities that rely on community support.

“Volunteers and partner organizations in the community play a vital part in our club’s growth and success,” remarked Anne Hertz, Executive Director of the Boys & Girl’s Club of Cypress, “And we are thankful for the contributions that this troop has made over the years.”

The Boys & Girls Club of Cypress is open from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for the remainder of the summer and will be open from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily starting Aug. 25, and accommodates early release schedules for the Cypress School District and other select school schools.
