The Cypress High football team suffered its first loss of the season while celebrating Homecoming. It surrendered a pair of scores in the final quarter to fall 38-27 to Diamond Bar on Friday, at Western High in Anaheim.

The Cypress High football team suffered its first loss of the season while celebrating Homecoming. It surrendered a pair of scores in the final quarter to fall 38-27 to Diamond Bar on Friday, at Western High in Anaheim.

The loss dropped the Centurions to 3-1 overall this year.

The Centurions trailed 10-0 at the end of the first quarter, but they managed to cut the deficit to 24-21 at the end of the opening half. Quinten Pounds scored a 90-yard kickoff return to dent the board for the team. Additionally, he legged a 5-yard and quarterback Nick Buras threw him a 48-yard passing score in the second quarter.

Pounds ended with 60 yards on the ground and 70 through the air. Buras, on the other hand, threw for 138 yards.

In the third quarter, Cypress took a 27-24 lead when Buras tossed a 27-yard strike to Kevin Edwards. However, Cypress allowed 14 points to the opposition in the final quarter.

Cypress opens Empire League competition on Oct. 11, at Western High against Pacifica.
