Cypress girls softball continues streak

Cypress College recently won the State Championship in baseball and Cypress High School won the CIF Baseball Championships, while Cypress Girls Softball League, 8U Softball All-Stars went undefeated to win the State Championship, competing in Lancaster on July 5-7 for the SoCal ASA State Tournament.

The softball team is managed by Kay Timm and Coaches Ray Townsend, Rama Maline, and Dave Veloz.  This is the first year ASA has recognized the 8U Division as an actual tournament in state competition. There were 84 8U gold teams competing within eight districts making up the Southern California area. There were 16 teams who moved on to represent their districts, with two from each district.

Cypress went 5-0 to become the first 8U State Champions through the course of the tournaments and qualifying. The team played in 35 games, scoring 225 runs while only allowing 74 in six summer tournaments.
