The Cypress High girls’ water polo team suffered an 11-4 loss to Yorba Linda on Thursday, Jan. 30 at home. This marked the team’s third straight loss.
The Centurions, who dropped to 1-1 in Empire League play, managed to keep the score close early in the game. In fact, the first quarter ended with the score tied at 1-1. Aly Cosentino, who finished with two scores, put the Centurions in front with the game’s first goal.
However, the Centurions fell into a 3-2 deficit at the halftime break. Cosentino and Natalie Saldana both scored goals during the second quarter.
Yorba Linda earned a commanding lead in the third quarter, holding the Centurions scoreless while notching four goals. It then outscored the Centurions again in the third quarter, this time by the score of 3-1.
Dana Ramos notched the other goal for Cypress. Also, goalkeeper Rachel Privett, who seemed to be under constant pressure, ended with 10 saves and a steal.
