Cypress falls to Edison

The Cypress High football team’s season came to an end in the first round of the CIF Southwest Division playoffs at Orange Coast College. On Friday, Nov. 22, it suffered a 35-14 defeat to Edison.

The Cypress High football team’s season came to an end in the first round of the CIF Southwest Division playoffs at Orange Coast College. On Friday, Nov. 22, it suffered a 35-14 defeat to Edison.

The Centurions finished the season with a 5-7 overall record.

The Centurions did take a quick 7-0 lead when Quinten Pounds scored a 72-yard passing touchdown from quarterback Nick Buras. That allowed them to take a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

Pounds would finish with 141 receiving yards. Buras, who scrambled for 50 yards, later legged a 10-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. He also threw for 208 yards in the air.

Edison came roaring from behind, notching three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 21-0 lead at the halftime break. It then put the game out of reach in the fourth, adding another pair of scores to take a 35-7 advantage.

Defensively, Cypress player Khalil Wilson had an interception.
