CSD tabs new top administrator

The Cypress School District Board of Trustees announced that a finalist for the position of Superintendent has been identified, and upon successful negotiation of a contract and ratification at the next regularly scheduled Board Meeting on June 11, Anne Silavs, currently the Assistant Superintendent, Instruction for the Fountain Valley School District, will become Cypress School District’s next Superintendent effective July 1, 2015.

Silavs received her Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and her Master’s degree from Wayne State University before coming to the West Coast where she began her career in education as a teacher, site administrator, Director of Curriculum, and currently Assistant Superintendent, Instruction.

Candice Kern, President of the Cypress School Board said, “We are thrilled to be welcoming Anne Silavs to our Cypress family. She has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in all areas of education. Even with the many qualified candidates seeking this position, Anne stood out as the right person and fit as we continue to achieve our district’s mission and goals. She is experienced and highly regarded throughout the county, and we are truly blessed to have such a skilled and passionate individual at the helm.”

During her tenure as Assistant Superintendent in the Fountain Valley School District, Anne concentrated on the development of “Signature Instructional Practices” to support all students through a small group differentiated instructional model and effective student engagement techniques. Anne Silavs has been responsible for leading her district’s efforts with the Common Core, Smarter Balanced Assessments, and writing the Local Control and Accountability Plan. Fountain Valley School District Superintendent Mark Johnson said, “Anne is exceptional at her work, an outstanding communicator, and a valued member of our district’s management team. I highly value her opinions, guidance, and suggestions and feel blessed to have had the opportunity to work with her.”

Based on the feedback received from parents, staff, and community members, the Cypress School Board found someone in Anne Silavs who is a collaborative leader and who has had successful experience in implementation of the new state standards. Anne’s knowledge and leadership capacity will benefit her as she works with the Cypress leadership team to continue providing educational excellence for all students.

In addition, the Board of Trustees has selected a professional who can continue the work of building a successful school?community partnership. Anne’s success in helping to rebuild the Fountain Valley Schools Foundation into a vibrant and successful fundraising organization in support of the schools will serve her well in Cypress, CSD said in a released statement.

I have tremendous respect for all of the great work that is being done on behalf of children, and I look forward to working closely with the Board, staff, parents, and community to ensure Cypress School District’s rightful place as one of the premier school districts in the nation. I am truly thrilled to be joining the Cypress team,” Silavs said in the statement.
